Worn Polaroid
My girls returned from a wilderness walk today with a worn out, old Polaroid photo they found along the beaten path. It portrayed a mom and her two little girls sitting on a couch together, arms intertwined in a loving embrace for the camera. From their dress, my guess is it was taken in the late-70’s to early 80’s. I knew that behind that photo there was a story. Why did the photo end up on that beaten path, discarded like a worn out pair of socks? Where are the girls and their mother today? How is there relationship?
Photos have a way to immortalize the moment. How many of us have looked back longingly for the skinny bodies we had in high school? I look back at the sweet, tender photos of my newborn baby and remember how tiny she was and how soft her skin felt to my touch. It is hard to imagine that she is in school now.
Our lives are fluid; constantly changing with each passing year. We need to take the time to photograph the here and now. The photos we take today will be here in 20 years to tell the story of 2007.
Here are a couple of photos from a client session a few days ago.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is my absolute favorite holiday. I think it has to do with being a true romantic at heart. I love escaping from realism through a superlative view of life. Maybe that is why I love working with children. I love seeing things as innocent and fresh and interpreting their worldview through my photos. So enjoy this day and take the time to turn off the cynicism button and enjoy being open to the wonder of all things, but especially love.
Here are a couple of photos taken recently of a couple who got engaged at Christmas. Now that is romantic.

And here is a tame photo from a Valentine’s Day boudoir session reminiscent of the romantic Hollywood style portraits of the 1940’s.
