Sister love

As a mom of two little girls, I was interested to see how these two older siblings interacted with each other. I walked away with a big smile on my face as I saw how close these two beauties are.

And then the family got into the action. LOVE how everyone got into this!

That Spark

One of my greatest rewards as a photographer is seeing that spark in a child’s eyes. Sometimes it appears in a blink of an eye and is gone, other times the whole session is infused with electricity. Either way, the fact that I can capture that and immortalize it for the parents is a reward like no other. Here is an example of what I’m talking about…

In Atlanta through the weekend

I’ll be working in Atlanta through Saturday. On Friday night my work will be featured at a silent auction fundraiser for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. They are an amazing organization, you can read more about them at http://www.choa.org.

Bright Eyes

It is always bittersweet to have the last session with my clients in my baby plan. Of course, I know that they will return in a year or two, but it is so neat to see them every 3-6 months. My baby plan has gotten ever more popular in Pensacola as more families seek photos that reflect the unique characteristics of their child and their relationship with their child.

I actually had a client, who found me after their last baby was walking, tell me that her husband was so bummed that they didn’t find me when they had their baby that he jokingly said they should have another just to have me photograph him/her.  Wow, now that is a compliment if ever there was one.

This little sweetie pie has always had the brightest eyes and the most gorgeous smile.

She lives in another state now, but she is still coming back to see me and hope they will come back in the future so that I can continue to see her blossom.

My oldest

A week ago I shared photos of my youngest daughter, Liliana. Today, I’m sharing photos of Sophia. Sophia is a graceful, very tall, humorous 7 year old. She has a determined streak in her that she definitely got from me. She loves science, I mean LOVES science. She is especially interested in environmental science. She is big into recycle, renew, and reuse, I’m so proud of her! We are sending her to the University of West Florida’s science camp this summer to hopefully grow that love even more.

Taking Off

Just over a month ago this little guy had yet to walk. When I showed up he was already a walking champ, up, down, all over the place.

Of course all the moving wears a little guy out, snuggles and a quick snooze will cure that.

THE LONG ANTICIPATED BOOK INTRODUCTION AND MY TV APPEARANCE

Complete information on the book and where you can buy it – woohoo!!!!

Introducing…

A Slice of Life – Vignettes of Five Families Living with Autism

Cover Small

This 8×8 inch 80 page book tells the stories of five families who have one of more child with autism with the use of photos and ancedotes from their lives. That being said, it is really hard to put into words how powerful this book is until you actually read it.

After reviewing the book, Sue Straughn, a Pensacola WEAR ABC news TV personality, said the following…

“It’s hard to explain, but I was drawn to the book. I’d catch a glimpse of it on my desk and find myself reaching for it and thumbing through the pages … again. I found myself mentally writing my own captions for each picture. As I said, it’s hard to find the words to explain why, but perhaps the pictures are the words.”

The photos are raw and emotionally powerful. I presented families with children all along the spectrum of autism. Here is a photo of Spencer, he is non-verbal and uses sign language to communicate as shown here…

Here is a photo of Ruurd…he loves to smile.

The book was unveiled at the Annual ASP Fundraiser Dinner on March 28 to rave reviews from those how saw and purchased it. I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls and emails asking where it could be purchased. Finally, we have all the details worked out so that it is a smooth process for everyone.

First of all, and this is very important, EVERY SINGLE CENT OUTSIDE OF THE PRINTING COST AND THE SHIPPING COST GOES DIRECTLY TO THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF THE PANHANDLE. Go to http://autismpensacola.org/join.htm and look for the two book options in the shopping list. Click on “join now” for the shipping or pick up option you want. By the way, you are not joining, that is just a fluke in the shopping cart. You will be able to complete your purchase online by filling out the required information.

Also, one other thing, Sue Straughn was so impressed with the book that she featured me as an “Angel in our Midst.” For those of you not from Pensacola, this is a weekly segment on WEAR ABC News that highlights someone in the community that has gone above and beyond in helping others. It was a shock to be chosen and a wonderful honor to be inducted into a group of individuals who have inspired me so greatly. If you wish to view the segment go to this link: http://www.weartv.com/players/news/angels/video.shtml and along the right side there is a column of photos. Look for the photo of me holding a camera and click on the link to the right of the picture. The video to the left will play the segment.

Thank you for supporting Autism Awareness through the purchase of my book.

Older siblings

It was a joy photographing this family vacationing on Pensacola Beach from Indiana.

I got a chance to know this young man a bit and he seemed so relaxed and easy-going. I think this photo captured that.

This girl was hesitant at first to get her feet wet, but soon she was darting in and out of the surf.

I loved this young man’s eyelashes.

Letting Go

As we walked down to the shore to start our photo session, there was apprehension among the children. By the end of the session, everyone had let go and enjoyed the experience. These photos attest to that.
