On Memorial Day…

Today is a day set aside to honor those who have died defending our country. I am infused with their legacy every time I go to the polls with my daughters to have my voice heard and show my daughters that someday they will have that right too. I feel these soldiers’ presence when I explain to my daughters that they will be able to worship (or not worship) anyway they choose as they grow up. And I know that when we sing America the Beautiful, the National Anthem, and I’m Proud to be an American and truly feel the meaning behind these songs, that these men and womens’ sacrifice will never be taken for granted by us.

Regardless of how we feel about the present war, we can not deny that these men and women and the families that support them are making a great sacrifice. I personally can not imagine how difficult it would be to leave my children for a year. My heart goes out to all of them. Here is a dad just about to do the aforementioned.

His daughter loves to walk around in his army boots, look in her eyes and see how much she adores her daddy…

Daddy's Boots

And finally this photo I’ve entitled “Bliss,” because it captured that one moment when all the planets were aligned, the world stood still, and all you could hear was the soft, swift thumping of three hearts intertwined…

Bliss

Here is my wish for this daddy…may that feeling he had above stick like crazy glue to his memory so that when he gets to missing his babies in the year to come, he can close his eyes and feel all of those emotions coating him from head to toe.

I had a really nice write up from a fellow photographer who has taken the time to review various professionals that she admires. Here is what she wrote about Look Who Just Blouin Photography…

My contest winner from two years ago is back

Do you remember this winning photo? It was featured in the Pensacola News Journal. It spurred a ton of calls to me about tutu beach shoots.

Well, this Mississippi family honored me their presence last week again. Here is the little model, two years later…

Thanks to all of my returning clients, it is a great honor to be called again to capture your family.

Are you the type that jumps right in or bides your time?

I worked with two little guys with opposite personalities in this regard. One would have dove headlong into the ocean if given the chance, the other stayed at least 40 ft from the shoreline (just to make sure), one immersed his face in the fountain spray, the other would rather just sniff flowers on the sidelines watching his brother get soaking wet.

So, please share…which one describes you, and why??

Hold your babies tight

I don’t know about you, but seeing all of those Chinese grieving parents at the wreckage that used to be a middle school is tearing my heart out. I am moved to grab onto my little ones and hold them extra tight in my arms. Life is so unpredictable, live without regret.

Here is a Pensacola family in which the children naturally snuggled right into their parents. You can tell that they have a phenomenal relationship with their children.

A Mother’s Day Gift for the Mom’s Out There

I decided at around 10 p.m. on Saturday night that I needed to tell all of you how much you leave me in awe. The only way I could think to do that is to put together a Mom’s Tribute Slideshow. I wasn’t able to be as fancy as my New Year’s slideshows because of the time limitations, but I am happy with how it turned out. I went through and randomly pulled photos of moms with their children out of my hard drive- photos that jumped out at me for displaying the qualities that I adore in mothers.

This is a bittersweet holiday for me. On one hand I don’t have contact with my own mother (not my choice) but on the other hand (the very sweet hand), I have two lovely girls who bring tears to me eyes when I actually just sit still and watch them. I’m sure you can all relate to the sense of amazement that washes over you at those times when you think about your title and have very lucky you are to be in such great company.

Thank you for inspiring me to capture such beautiful moments. You are the bedrock of humanity.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Click on this link and you will be prompted to download the show. If asked, click on “Run.” It will only be available until Monday evening, so enjoy it now before it expires. Feel free to share this with the other moms in your life who you think are special. There is a button below that will allow you to forward this email to them.

Regulars

Here is a little boy I first photographed when he was 5 lbs. I love my regular clients who I’m privileged to watch grow up in front of my eyes. Here he is with his daddy at the beach.

You’ll never get these days back

I just threw a birthday party for my youngest daughter yesterday. As I watched her make her wish as she blew out her six candles, I couldn’t help thinking how precious each day with our children is and how we should never take these days for granted because before you know it, they’ll be all grown up.

Many of my clients book me to photograph them on the beach because they know that I can artfully capture the genuine nature of their children and their time spent together in such a beautiful idyllic location. I’m so excited for a summer of these times. Here is a family’s time together on Pensacola Beach.
