On Memorial Day…

May 25, 2008

Today is a day set aside to honor those who have died defending our country. I am infused with their legacy every time I go to the polls with my daughters to have my voice heard and show my daughters that someday they will have that right too. I feel these soldiers’ presence when I explain to my daughters that they will be able to worship (or not worship) anyway they choose as they grow up. And I know that when we sing America the Beautiful, the National Anthem, and I’m Proud to be an American and truly feel the meaning behind these songs, that these men and womens’ sacrifice will never be taken for granted by us.

Regardless of how we feel about the present war, we can not deny that these men and women and the families that support them are making a great sacrifice. I personally can not imagine how difficult it would be to leave my children for a year. My heart goes out to all of them. Here is a dad just about to do the aforementioned.

His daughter loves to walk around in his army boots, look in her eyes and see how much she adores her daddy…

Daddy's Boots

And finally this photo I’ve entitled “Bliss,” because it captured that one moment when all the planets were aligned, the world stood still, and all you could hear was the soft, swift thumping of three hearts intertwined…

Bliss

Here is my wish for this daddy…may that feeling he had above stick like crazy glue to his memory so that when he gets to missing his babies in the year to come, he can close his eyes and feel all of those emotions coating him from head to toe.

    Dear Trista,

This is the son-in-law and grandchildren of a dear friend of mine. Thank you so much for honoring him on this day and for so beautifully visually capturing something Matt can hold onto in the coming year when he’s serving in iraq. My best to them all.

    Trista -

This is beautiful! It brought tears to my eyes. I know this means a lot to Marianna and she is going to need all the support she can get when Matt is gone. These photos will give her a constant reminder of the happiness they have as a family when he is away.

Thanks for the wonderful blog honoring them!

Thanks Jodie and Nicole, the session was a pleasure to shoot. I’m glad that I was able to share my abilities with their family and create some lasting memories for them.
