Living in the Moment

When parents can just forget that I’m there and be in the moment with their child, that is when the beautiful authentic portraits are created. Here is a Pensacola family out on Pensacola Beach.

Watercolor, FL Shoot

Look at these families having a blast over in Watercolor (which is right next to Seaside in case you haven’t heard of it). Very lovely resort for children, I would strongly suggest it if you are looking for a top-notch place offering all sorts of amenities for the family. I believe it has been rated as one of the top resorts for families by Travel and Leisure magazine.

CASTING CALL – Need child participants for photo art exhibit

I have just been accepted to exhibit at Gallery 88 for my black and white photo art project on race relations. The goal of the exhibit, which will not only run during the presidential inauguration but during Martin Luther King Day, is to open the minds and hearts of viewers to what race and ethnicity is and isn’t. Invitations to visit the gallery will be sent out to all sorts of community and civic groups within Escambia and Santa Rosa county.

I am running a casting call/model search for participants in my project. I need children between the ages of 2-8 years. I am looking for children of all races and skin color.

Requirements:

1. Parents must sign full model release on behalf of their child.

2. You must be willing to bring your child to a local designated location for approximately 2 hours to play with other children and be photographed.

3. Child must like being photographed and not be shy around other children.

4. Parents must harbor no racial prejudice.

5. Parents must be comfortable with their child’s photo being featured in the media (print, television and website) both locally and possibly nationally.

Compensation:

1. Each child’s parents will receive a matted and signed black and white photo of their child.

2. Invitation to a special VIP reception for all participants during the exhibit which will be held at Gallery 88.

So if you are interested or know of someone who would be, please email me at trista@lookwhojustblouin.com and let me know. Interested parties will need to send me a recent photo of their child and the answers to a few screening questions.

Details on my Sunrise Incentive Program

The first round of babies that entered my baby’s first year plan, named the Sunrise Incentive Program, are graduating this summer. For those who aren’t familar with this program here is how it works and its benefits…

1. You need to sign up, because I only accept a limited number of babies for this program.

1. Six month and twelve month photo sessions are $50 off.

2. Spend $450 at each of the three sessions (newborn, 6 months, and 12 months) and get a 10×10 inch coffee table book with photos and other goodies from all three sessions.

Here are a couple photos from the book of a recent graduate…

Book four

Here I include the baby’s birth info…

Book two

Here on the last page I include two hand-written letters that I’ve scanned in and placed in the book. One from each of the parent’s to the baby. I had one client tell me that she will be giving this book to her daughter when she has her first child.

Book three

The quality of this book is superb, thick photographic pages and a classic heirloom look and feel.

Book one

If you are interested in this program, email me and I will let you know if there is a slot available.

Reminiscing…

This past week, all of my “spare” time was spent going through mounds of old archived photo sessions from the past four years. I was asked by a magazine to choose my favorite beach photos for an upcoming feature in their magazine. Wow, I didn’t realize how emotionally attached I had become to each of the families who have graced my life over the past half decade. As I flipped through photos of laughing children, I was struck with the wish to know how these children were doing now. Many of the families I work with stay in touch with me because they became my friends and/or they now use me as their regular photographer. I got an email tonight with photos from the mom of a little newborn I photographed, the photos were of his 2nd birthday party.  I love to hear from past clients, so please drop me a line and let me know how you are doing.

Anyway, since I’ve got these dug out, I figured I would share a couple of oldies but goodies…

I hope to see you this summer. I’m booking late July right now. Don’t let the summer pass you by. I hope that I can create beautiful, meaningful portraits of your family very soon.

To All My Faithful Blog Readers, an Update…

You’ve probably been wondering where I’ve been. My business needed two weeks of time to catch up on all the internal workings of the business and to gear up for the busy summer beach season. I did not take any sessions during this time as I caught up on everything. Would you like to hear about some neat developments that happened during these past two weeks?

First of all, I was able to do something that I love, and that is to peruse the artist community on the web. I found a couple different projects that touched me deeply. One moved me so much that I decided to spend some time thinking about how it could be applied to my approach as an artist in this area. Once I had a firm idea of what I wanted to do, I approached a local gallery and gave the director my prospectus. She loved it and has accepted my new project for an exhibit in early 2009!! I will be seeking subjects soon, so keep visiting often to be part of this exciting project.

Secondly, I was interviewed as an “expert” on running a successful photography business. The book will be released nationally within the next couple of months.

Thirdly, I booked my business trip to Arizona and California. I will be going out there for a couple weeks in January 2009. If you know of anyone who would like to book me in the Phoenix or San Diego areas, have them contact me.

And finally, I’ve decided to do a Christmas in June promotion. I gave some thought to how busy last August-November were for me in relation to families having photos taken for Christmas and decided to try and diffuse that insanity. I will put the details in another post.
